    About RLA

RLA is an older image format used by 3D and visual effects software. You’ll mostly use it to open or convert images from older projects into everyday formats you can view and share easily.

    • Great for opening legacy 3D render frames; not meant for everyday photos.
    • Not widely supported today, so you’ll usually need a converter or special viewer.
    • Can preserve high image quality and may include extras like transparency from the original render.
    • Read only in most tools: you can open and convert it, but you typically won’t save new images as RLA.
    • For sharing, convert to PNG or TIFF to keep quality, or to JPEG for smaller file sizes.
    • Files can be fairly large compared to common web images.
