    About MRW

MRW is a raw photo format used by older Minolta and some early Sony digital cameras. It’s helpful when you want the highest‑quality original photo to edit or convert into a more shareable format.

    • Great for editing: keeps lots of detail, so you can better fix brightness, color, and shadows.
    • Not ideal for sharing: many apps and websites don’t accept MRW, so convert to JPEG or PNG for everyday use.
    • Larger files: MRW photos take more storage space than JPEGs.
    • Read-only in most software: you can open and convert MRW files, but you typically can’t save new images as MRW.
    • Good conversion choices: use JPEG for small files and quick sharing, or TIFF/DNG when you want to keep more quality for future editing.
    • Common on older cameras: if you’re importing photos from an older Minolta camera, you’ll likely see MRW files.
